WHAT IS PARKOUR?
Parkour is a physical discipline that originated from military obstacle course training. It involves moving efficiently through urban or natural environments using only the human body and its capabilities. Practitioners, known as traceurs, aim to overcome obstacles such as walls, rails, and gaps in the most fluid and efficient manner possible, often incorporating techniques like running, jumping, climbing, and vaulting.At its core, parkour emphasizes adaptability, creativity, and overcoming physical and mental obstacles. It encourages practitioners to see their surroundings in a new light, transforming everyday landscapes into playgrounds for movement exploration and self-expression.Parkour's popularity has grown worldwide, with dedicated communities forming in cities and towns across the globe. Flag Tag, Chase Tag, Tag?
Chase Tag, and Tag are all variations of the classic game where players chase and tag each other. Each version has its own unique rules and objectives, but they all share the common goal of outmaneuvering opponents while avoiding being tagged.Flag Tag adds an extra layer of strategy by giving each player a flag or ribbon to protect. The objective is to capture opponents' flags while safeguarding one's own. This variation encourages players to employ stealth, agility, and evasion tactics to outsmart their opponents and secure victory.Chase Tag ramps up the intensity by focusing solely on the pursuit aspect of the game. In this fast-paced version, one player is designated as the 'tagger,' while the others must evade being tagged for as long as possible. The tagger's goal is to chase down and tag as many opponents as they can within a set time limit, while the evaders strive to outmaneuver and dodge their pursuer's attempts.Traditional Tag, also known as 'It' or 'Tig,' is perhaps the most familiar rendition of the game. Players take turns being 'it,' tasked with chasing down and tagging other players to transfer the 'it' status. The game continues until all players have had a turn being 'it,' or until a predetermined endpoint or condition is met.Regardless of the variation, these tag-based games promote physical activity, teamwork, and strategic thinking. It's about the kids!
When kids play tag, they don't just run...they have to think on their feet. The need for quick reflexes, sudden changes of direction, and speed means that playing tag is great exercise. And tag games are easy to learn, with few rules. Many of these games and variations help kids foster physically active, social, healthy play.
It turns out that cutting recess and gym class to make room for more test prep is exactly the opposite of what helps students do well in school.
Elementary school kids who exercised for about an hour a day in an after-school program had better brain function and were more focused than students who didn’t get much physical activity.
kids in the exercise program or some kind of organized sport also improved in overall fitness. But there was also an unanticipated outcome in their attendance rates improved!
